A Season of Receiving the Fruit of the Lips: Repent and Rejoice

There are moments in life when heaven seems to lean in a little closer — when your words carry more weight than usual. You may be in such a season right now: a season of receiving the fruit of the lips.

Scripture reminds us over and over that our words are not empty. They sow seeds in the spirit. And in this season, God is calling us to be especially aware of what’s flowing from our mouths: to repent and rejoice — at the same time.

What Is the “Fruit of the Lips”?

The Bible uses this phrase to describe the consequences or results of what we speak — our confessions, our praise, our prayers.

“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”
— Hebrews 13:15 (KJV)

“I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him that is far off…”
— Isaiah 57:19 (KJV)

God listens to what we speak — and in this season, He’s responding. Our words are planting seeds, and we’re beginning to reap their harvest — for better or worse.

Repent

Repentance isn’t just about guilt or shame. It’s about returning. Coming back to God with truthful lips and a surrendered heart.

“Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.”
— Hosea 14:2

In other words: bring your words when you come to repent. Speak your confession. Be transparent . He already knows but you need to release it . Don’t just feel sorrow, say it. And God, in His mercy, creates healing out of those humble words.

Rejoice

Right after repentance comes rejoicing. Not because we’re perfect — but because God is merciful.

“O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.”
— Psalm 51:15

These are David’s words after repenting of his sin with Bathsheba. He understood that once repentance is real, praise becomes natural. It’s the fruit that follows a cleansed heart.

Repent and Rejoice at the Same Time?

When the Lord gave this word to share I was like, huh!? At the same time? What do you mean?

But as the spirit of the Lord made sense of it, I saw how  powerful it was.

You can:

  • Be broken over sin and bold in your praise.
  • Mourn what was lost and still rejoice in what’s being restored.
  • Confess your weakness and celebrate God’s strength in you.

This is maturity — walking in both humility and joy.

Watch Your Words: What Are You Sowing?

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
— Proverbs 18:21

If your words are full of bitterness, fear, or pride — expect that harvest.
But if your lips carry repentancepraise, and truth — God promises to respond with peace.

Your words matter more than you think especially now.
Speak wisely. Repent honestly. Rejoice freely.
Because this is a season of fruit, and your lips are the soil.

We all fall short of the glory of God. But the wonderful thing about Jesus is that He meets us in our failure, not with condemnation, but with grace. He doesn’t wait for us to be perfect—He came because we never could be. Through His death and resurrection, we’re not just forgiven, we’re made new. His love covers every shortcoming, and His mercy rewrites our story.

Psalm 141:3 (NIV):
“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.”

Ephesians 4:29 (NIV):
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

Our Words are powerful. With them, we can build up or tear down, heal or wound, bless or curse. That’s why the psalmist prayed, “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips” (Psalm 141:3). It’s a simple prayer, but one packed with wisdom. Wisdom that we need to be reminded of often.

In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to let frustration slip out as sarcasm, or to speak carelessly when we’re tired or angry. But Scripture reminds us: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up” (Ephesians 4:29).

This isn’t about perfection — it’s about intention. It’s about asking God to help us pause before we speak, to consider if our words reflect His grace.

Personally , The Lord has done a great change in my speech. I’m not perfect , but I’m mindful most times of what comes through. When we give the Lord the areas of our lives that need change, He does the work needed. In my surrender, Holy Spirit taught me about the ancestral tongue, which he called the mother tongue.

This was simply speaking the way that my parents/grandparents spoke and as he opened up my eyes to see beyond the sentences or phrases, I saw how life could have been different in the lives of those no longer here but taken away because of the words they repeatedly released into their atmosphere or were released over them , but that’s a topic for another time.

Those who are still here , I’ve seen how in unforgiveness, bitterness and just the being out there in the world, have spoken things over themselves or others but can’t seem to get out of bondage and generational curses. (This is a topic for another time)

But it’s to do with the fact that words matter. What’s released can’t come back , but it can be repented of. No matter how you may feel, like I tell the ladies at IAC , yes the Lord acknowledges our feelings , but most times that’s all it is. It’s not the truth. It’s not the truth about us or in the case of speaking against someone, it’s not the truth about that person. We need the Holy Spirit’s take on this one. He is the spirit of truth and he will make it all clear.

With our words, we bless , bless our spouse, our children, our neighbors , our community. Ask yourself? What am I doing with my words? God spoke things into existence. You to can do the same. Prayer and faith maybe needed with some but my point is are you building up or tearing down?

So here’s a reminder ; The enemy is SUBTLE!!!!Culture has shaped the way we speak, the way we carry about ourselves but what if all along , what is said to be culture was just the enemy in disguise?

This is where discernment is key.

Not your own but Holy Spirit’s discernment.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2 (NIV)

In your time with the Lord, ask him to reveal to you language you’ve used that’s actually a stumbling block before you now. When all seems to be going wrong , ask him Lord what did I say?

You’ll get your response quickly . It’s not your neighbor , it’s not your friend, but it’s you. ( Here in the Caribbean where I’m from, those two are the first to get blamed 😂)

You did the enemy’s work for him. He released a hook and you took the bait.

You spoke against your self in a moment of frustration maybe made an inner vow in top of it or you spoke against someone, and it’s being used against you.

So in this season, heed to voice of the Lord. Repent.

Repentance is a lifestyle , not a one time thing and that’s it, over and done, I’m good to go. It’s not something we do when we really mess up, It’s the way we walk when it comes to forgiveness and the good news, Jesus made that possible for us.

So I say this to you ;

Rejoice that you get to repent .

If repentance is hard or you see no need to, it’s because pride has stepped in the room and for that you need to repent nonetheless.

Lastly ,

Even when you can’t see it — God is working.
Even when you feel stuck — He’s shaping you.
Even when life feels like a mess — He’s making something new.

Transformation isn’t just something God does in a moment — it’s a lifelong process. From the inside out, He is always at work, molding us more into the image of Jesus.

The process may be slow, but it’s sure.

Sometimes it looks like conviction.
Sometimes it feels like pruning.
Sometimes it’s peace in the storm, or strength in weakness.
But in every season, God is doing something in us that we often don’t see until later.

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 1:6

So if you feel like you’re not there yet, hold on , Don’t just trust the process, but trust the One who’s in it with you.

Shalom 🙏🏽

IAC
